Took us two months to watch this and takes some getting into (tho' I enjoyed the financial sector start) but develops into a real feel good film. We'd watch it again.

Spiderwick Chronicles

Serious fantasy - scary in parts but all three survived without nightmares - not one to leave littlies on their own to watch. Imaginative and interesting - watch the dysfunctional kid become the hero but good to see how his family rally around and support him. We like Griffins and hobgoblins!

The Da Vinci Code

Good film, well acted, nicely paced, a bit shallower than the book but that was inevitable and the final dialogue was actually quite thought provoking. Love the way Jesus' final descendant is an athiest - female aspect doesn't phase me.
Religious aspect - Yes I can see that it sows doubt about the viability of Christianity and can see why some Christians were against it. On the other hand, it is good that it provokes thought and reflection and can provide an opportunity for dialogue about the person of Jesus. So was there a virgin birth and does the resurrection really matter???????

Shawshank Redemption

Finally got to watch it - a class film.

Poignant, Dramatic; innocence, betrayal, loyalty, brutality, determination, honour and the many sides of truth...
not to mention the darker sides of humanity and some would say religion. I just say, yet again, Power Corrupts! (And s/he who dares, WINS)

Not bad, pretty predictable, safe way to enjoy an evening and iron very slowly. Won't watch it again tho'

Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back & Revenge of the Jedi

Watched these three with the kids now - B particularly enjoyed & O ended up with a light sabre! The first is so dated lol, enjoyed the snow scenes and those ewoks are so funny. Its just so Hindu orientated - a big wookie, rescue by the ewoks (those soooo cute monkey guys) and then cremating DV at the end - may his spirit join the force!

So was that DV appearing with Obi Wan & Yoda in the final scene?
Looking forward to watching the second 3 films now.

Very musical, the S.USA racial segregation slant, obviously pro integration but written by whites - happy feeling result - did it take the issue seriously enough? - wonder what a black audience would make of it? Good film tho.

An unexpected tear jerker – very powerfully bringing together my love for Africa, particularly Kenya, the country of my childhood, the medical profession and that sense of justice both of which were also integral to my upbringing. I was reminded as to why I stopped eating Nestle products in my more passionate teens, perhaps I’ll go back to that. Does it also mean there are certain drug companies whose products I should also boycott? (Peter)

After Little Miss Sunshine & La Vie en Rose a burst of refreshment. Romance and tragedy but so much gentler and full of humour and tenderness. A great curl up on the sofa together movie. (If you like animated pictures of small bunnies!)

Hit this one with L at her most formative. We still call her Happy Feet and she is. All the kids love the film. Great romance, scary bits, classy music and all wrapped up in cuddly penguin to keep the kidz :-)
